It is a reboot of the Friday the 13th film series, whose last film was the 2003 crossover film Freddy vs. Jason. Nispel also helmed the 2003 remake of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, while Shannon and Swift wrote the screenplay for Freddy vs. Jason. The film stars Derek Mears as Jason Voorhees, with Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti portraying the male and female leads. Set for a Friday, February 13, 2009 release, the film will take elements from the first four films.

Filming

Principal photography began on April 21, 2008 in Austin, Texas and wrapped up on June 13, 2008.

Release

The film will have its North American release on Friday, February 13, 2009.

Freddy vs. Jason

Freddy vs. Jason is a 2003 American crossover slasher film directed by Ronny Yu. The main characters include horror icons Freddy Krueger (from A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Jason Voorhees (from Friday the 13th). In the series continuity for both franchises, the events of this film take place after Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday.

Reception

Freddy vs. Jason has received mixed reviews from critics. The website Rotten Tomatoes currently holds a score of 41% for the film, rating it 'Rotten'.

Award nominations

Doug Chapman and Glenn Ennis were nominated for the Best Fire Stunt in the Taurus World Stunt Awards 2004 for the double full body burn and wire stunt. The film made $16,951,798 worldwide with a $14,000,000 budget.
The film was conceived as means of moving the franchise ahead while Freddy vs. Jason was still stuck in development hell. Jason X is set in the future (the opening scene being set in at least 2010, and Jason revealed as having been held captive since 2008) so as not to confuse the continuity of the series.

Box Office

The film made $13,121,555 domestic, making it the lowest grossing film in the series.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (also known as Friday the 13th Part IX: Jason Goes To Hell or simply on the DVD case Jason Goes To Hell) is a 1993 slasher film, and the ninth installment in the Friday the 13th film series and the first sequel to be distributed by New Line Cinema.
Much like the earlier installment, Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, the film sports a misleading title due to being followed (as of 2009) by three films. When released, it was marketed as the end of Friday the 13th part of the series, although Jason X was made almost a decade after.

Reception

The film was reviewed higher than Jason Takes Manhattan, but was generally received poorly, getting a 29% rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Box office

The film opened in 1,355 theaters making $7.6 million its opening weekend. It is the eighth film in the Friday the 13th film series and the last film in the series to have been distributed by Paramount. The film's tagline is, "New York has a new problem." It took in just $14.3 million at the domestic box office, making it the second-to-lowest grossing film in the series.

Notes

There is a now sought after poster featuring Jason ripping through an "I Love New York" poster (seen to the right). It was released in some theaters but was quickly withdrawn due to complaints from the New York Tourism Committee.

The scenes set in Times Square, and in the ocean looking at the Statue of Liberty, were the only scenes actually filmed in Manhattan; the rest was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. This made the film the first in the series to be filmed mainly in Canada, a practice that would continue in Jason X and Freddy vs. Jason.

Kelly Hu made her feature film debut in this movie, playing the character Eva.

At 100 minutes, this is the longest film in the series.

Ken Kirzinger appears uncredited as the man Jason (Kane Hodder) throws over the counter in the New York diner. Kirzinger would replace Hodder as Jason in 2003's Freddy vs. Jason.

The subway entrance in the middle of Times Square at the end of the movie is fake. The prop was placed diagonally on top of street grates.

The machete is only present in the scene where Jason kills the ship's captain.

Jason's mask was destroyed in the last movie. The young man who scares his girlfriend in the beginning has a similar mask which Jason takes to replace his old one before he kills them.

Many scenes were cut or entirely trimmed in order to avoid an "X" rating: Jim's death originally had his intestines spilling out of his stomach after Jason stabbed him with the spear gun; Suzy's death was longer and more disturbing, with Jason repeatedly stabbing her with the spear and twisting it around in her chest; Tamara's death originally had Jason continuously stabbing her with the glass shard (she was also fully nude when this occurred); When the boxer is killed with the sauna rock, there was more blood and steam coming from his chest; The captain's throat-slashing originally had far more bloodshed; Wayne's electrocution was a little longer with foam coming from his mouth; Miles' death showed him actually landing on the antennas rather than just showing the aftermath. Also edited was a subplot involving a shiphand spying on several of the undressed teenagers.

The flashback scene in which Rennie is pulled under water as a child by Jason was an homage to the original Friday the 13th where Jason attacked Alice in the same fashion. This scene takes the ending of the first film literally, in that Alice was not actually dreaming but was truly attacked by a young Jason Voorhees.

The film has 1 hour of the film taking place on the ship, and 40 minutes in New York City. In the original script, it was switched around: 40 minutes on the ship, and 1 hour in New York City.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood is the sixth sequel to the original Friday the 13th, and is considered to be the darkest film in the series. It also marked the first appearance of Kane Hodder in the role of Jason Voorhees. The film underwent extensive editing in order to avoid an X rating for overly violent content, but some of the omitted footage was included as a supplemental feature in a box set of the series.

Release and reception
All existing home video versions of this film, including the box set released by Paramount Home Video have the infamous "sleeping bag death" cut to one hit, whereas the original theater-shown version had the uncut, six-hit sleeping bag death scene, with blood all over the sleeping bag, intact.

The film took in $19.1 million at the domestic box office, making it the fourth lowest grossing entry of the series.

The film is mentioned in the novels American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis (p. 112) and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

Trivia

There were a number of filmed scenes that were edited out of the final cut in order for the movie to gain its R rating including: Maddy's face getting stabbed in the wood shed, Dr. Crews' body being cut in two in the woods, a longer death-in-sleeping bag scene, Russell's axe in the face by the lake, Jason holding David's head, and an ending scene of Jason jumping out of the water and grabbing a fisherman.

Kane Hodder did all his own Jason stunts in this film, including falling through the stairway, and having the porch roof fall on his head.

Kerry Noonan, who played Paula in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986), read for the role of Tina, but when John Carl Buechler discovered she'd been in the previous film he decided not to cast her.

Walt Gorney, the veteran actor who played Crazy Ralph in the original Friday the 13th and in Part 2, returns as the voice of the narrator during the opening of this film.

Jason's mask in this film was cast from the same mold as the original mask from Friday the 13th Part III (1982), but was modified slightly; in addition to the damage seen in the mask (the axe cut and propeller damage), the edges of the mask have been trimmed to make it smaller, to allow more of actor Kane Hodder's head to be seen around the mask.

There were several different stuntwomen who played Sandra during her drowning scene; two for the underwater shots, and one for her corpse being pulled onto the shore by Jason.

The film's original title was "Birthday Bash".

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives

<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; is a 1986 slasher film, the sixth film in the Friday the 13th series. The film was written and directed by Tom McLoughlin.
Box office

The film opened in 1,610 theaters making $6.7 million its opening weekend. Domestically, the film has made $19.4 million.

Notes

The film was the first film in Friday the 13th series that didn't gross over $20 million.

The script contained material that alluded to Jason's father, which, to date, remains the closest the series has ever come to shedding light on the mysterious character. In the material we would see Pamela Voorhees' headstone next to Jason's; a reference to the fact that someone paid to have Jason buried, which would have explained why he wasn't cremated as the Mayor stated in A New Beginning; and a final scene in which Jason's father (known simply as "Mr. Voorhees" at the time) visits his son's grave, seemingly aware of the fact that Jason isn't inside. These scenes were filmed, but excised; however, they did make it to the film's 1986 novelization by Simon Hawke.

In the original script, the deaths of both Nikki and Officer Pappas were more graphic. Instead of Jason pushing Nikki's face into the wall, as we see in the wide release, Jason squeezed her throat until blood spurted out. In Officer Pappas' death, Jason originally tore off his face (literally), leaving a faceless corpse staring ahead before falling down. However, veteran Friday the 13th producer Frank Mancuso, Jr. advised director Tom McLoughlin to tone down these scenes for the film, stating that the MPAA would never give the film an "R" rating with these scenes intact.

An additional scene that has occasionally made its way onto television airings features deputy Rick locked in the jail cell, banging on the cell window, calling for help, and struggling to reach for the keys left on the floor.

The workprint version, currently circulating as a bootleg, contains the sheriff's backbreaking death in its entirety. The ending is also slightly altered; it excludes the profanity Tommy spouts at Jason, and the ensuing fight between Tommy and Jason both above and below the lake's surface is longer. After Megan rescues Tommy and shoves the boat's propeller into Jason's neck, the shot of the gore spilling into the water is eliminated.

Although Camp Crystal Lake is a camp for children, this is the only film in the series where actual camp kids appear.

At 86 minutes long, this is the shortest Friday the 13th film by only a minute (Friday the 13th Part 2 was a close 87 minutes).

This is the first Friday the 13th film to not feature any illegal drug use or full frontal nudity.

Shavar Ross, who played Reggie in the fifth film, was going to be killed in the opener of this film, but Ross refused to do the role.[1]

In the opener, you see a pan-in of Jason's face before the title screen is revealed. The screen pans in to Jason's eye as a smaller image of Jason is revealed to walk from right to left, then slash the screen and a spurt of blood blankets the screen; flashing the title across screen. This can be noted as a Horror poke at earlier James Bond intros.

Melanie Kinnaman, who starred in Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985) as Pam, actually signed on to reprise her role for this film. However, the producers decided to go in a new direction for this film, which excluded Kinnaman's character.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is a 1985 slasher film. It was released on March 22, 1985. It is the fifth film in the Friday the 13th film series. Despite the previous film claiming to be the "final chapter," this installment set out to live up to its title by being a "new beginning" for the franchise. However, these plans fell through when the film was greeted with backlash from fans who felt deceived and betrayed by the film's twist ending.

Box office

The film opened in 1,759 theaters taking in $8 million its opening weekend. Domestically, the film has grossed $21.9 million.

Trivia

Originally, the opening of the film actually picks up not too long after the events of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter with Tommy Jarvis taken to the same hospital with Jason's body. In an effort to get to Jason, Tommy murders several of the hospital's staff trying to get to the morgue. When he finally gets there, he finds Jason's body rising from the autopsy table. It's at this point that an adult Tommy wakes up in a van on the way to Pinehurst as in the film.

The producers had originally wanted Corey Feldman to reprise his role as Tommy. But because he was filming The Goonies, Feldman was only available to do a cameo in the movie's opening scene.

Eddie's death was cut to avoid an X rating; originally blood and his cranial innards spurted out of the straps as Roy twisted them.

When Lana the waitress is murdered with the axe, the shot of her body quivering was cut to avoid an X rating.

Originally, Junior's death had his head bounce six times after being decapitated.

Strangely, the VHS release for the film did not feature the hockey mask worn by Jason or Roy, but rather the mask worn by Lord Hungamungus in Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior.

Violet's death was originally her getting violently hacked in half, crotch first. The director feared an "X" rating for sure, so it was changed to the much more simplistic death seen in the film.

Not counting the laughing or yelling, the Tommy Jarvis character only says 24 words throughout the whole movie.

There are three different hockey masks used either in this film or in it's advertisements. The first is the one that the Jason imposter (Roy) wears. It has a two blue / grey triangles below the eyes. The second is the one the actual Jason wears when Tommy sees him in the hospital room at the end. This has the red "chevron" triangle above the eyes. The third is featured on the poster. It's an entirely different hockey mask, with more breathing holes on it. This one was never used in the film.

This is the second film in the franchise which the real Jason is not the killer, the first was the original film.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is a slasher film. It is the fourth film in the Friday the 13th film series. Though it was billed as "The Final Chapter," there have been seven further films (including Freddy vs. Jason) in the franchise to date. The popularity and financial success of the film (earning over $32 million) kept Paramount Pictures from retiring the franchise. Because of the finality of this film's plot and title, the next film, Friday the 13th: A New Beginning, attempted to give the franchise a new face.

Trivia

Ted White refused to be credited for his role as Jason, saying he believed that many of the young actors were horribly treated on the shoot and he often felt bad about what he had to do to them. One particular instance was when young actress Judie Aronson was out on a raft in the lake, naked and freezing to the point where she was crying. Fed up, White stepped in and demanded that she come in to warm up or he would quit, and director Joseph Zito complied. White also admits that he never saw the entertainment value in watching attractive young actors being mutilated by a deranged killer and said he only did the film for the money. Despite his disdain for the film (though he says that it came out better than he expected), he was asked to reprise the role, but turned it down saying, "I had played Jason once and once was enough."

Peter Barton was hesitant when it came time to do his death scene, as he was previously burned by a magnesium flare doing a stunt on a previous movie and required multiple surgeries afterwards. Sensing Peter's hesitation, Ted White requested that a pad be placed behind Peter's head when he was slammed into the shower wall.

It has been said that Tom Savini only returned to contribute to the franchise to kill off Jason, whom he helped create in the original Friday the 13th. The character of Tommy Jarvis has been interpreted as a homage to Tom Savini. Aside from sharing a similar first name and an affinity for designing monster masks, both in their own right kill Jason off in the film.

The film was released on a Friday the 13th (the second film in the franchise to do so, after Part III).

During filming, actress Kimberly Beck experienced strange occurrences of a man watching her while she ran in a park, accompanied by phone calls at all hours. They oddly stopped once production of the film had stopped.

The poster artwork was used for the opening screen on Friday the 13th NES video game and the title screen of the C64 computer game.

Joseph Zito and Tom Savini previously worked together on a similarly toned slasher film, The Prowler.

The names of Paul and Ted were used earlier in the series, both being in "Part 2"'.

Rob mentions that his sister, Sandra, was killed by Jason. Sandra was one of the teenagers killed in "Part 2".

Friday the 13th Part III

Friday the 13th Part III is the third film in the Friday the 13th series. The 1982 movie was the first film in the series to feature Jason Voorhees in the hockey mask that has become synonymous with the character and his image. The film was released theatrically in 3-D, but the 3-D version is now available only in Japan on Video High Density disc home video, but is soon (February 3 2009) to get its anaglyph 3D release. Much like its sequel Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, this film was intended to end the series. Unlike its sequel and the later film, Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, this film did not include a moniker in its title to indicate as such.

Production

Some of the deaths were edited in order to avoid an "X" rating, including: Andy's death, which showed his right leg being cut off and his stomach being torn open; Vera's death was cut of bloodshed and her subsequent reaction (this was cut for supposedly looking "too real"); Edna's death was cut of excessive blood flow; Chili's impailment with the red-hot poker was cut of steaming blood hitting the floor; Debbie's original death showed blood spraying across her chest and face.

Response

The film opened in 1,079 theaters in 3D taking in $9,406,522 its opening weekend. Domestically, the film made $36.7 million, nearly double the earnings of the second movie.

This movie was the basis for Nature Trail to Hell, a song parody of slasher films by Weird Al Yankovic.

Friday the 13th Part 2

Friday the 13th Part II is a slasher film directed by Steve Miner. A sequel to Friday the 13th (1980), it is the second film in the Friday the 13th series. It was a moderate box-office hit, opening on May 1, 1981, in first place.

Development

Following the success of Friday the 13th in 1980, Paramount Pictures began plans to make a sequel. First acquiring the worldwide distribution rights, Frank Mancuso, Sr. stated, "We wanted it to be an event, where teenagers would flock to the theaters on that Friday night to see the latest episode." The initial ideas for a sequel involved the Friday the 13th title being used for a series of films, released once a year, that would not have direct continuity with each other, but be a separate "scary movie" of their own right. Phil Scuderi—one of three owners of Esquire Theaters, along with Steve Minasian and Bob Barsamian, who produced the original film—insisted that the sequel have Jason Voorhees, Pamela's son, even though his appearance in the original film was only meant to be a joke. Steve Miner, associate producer on the first film, believed in the idea and would go on to direct the first two sequels, after Cunningham opted not to return to the director's chair. Miner would use many of the same crew members from the first film while working on the sequels.

Reception

Like the first film, Friday the 13th Part 2 received great commercial success but was derided by critics.

Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave Friday the 13th Part 2 half of one star out of 4, stating: "This movie is a cross between the Mad Slasher and Dead Teenager genres; about two dozen movies a year feature a mad killer going berserk, and they're all about as bad as this one."

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th is a 1980 American independent horror film directed by Sean S. Cunningham and written by Victor Miller. The film stars Betsy Palmer, Adrienne King, Harry Crosby and Kevin Bacon in one of his earliest roles. The film concerns a group of teenagers who re-open an abandoned camp site years after a young boy drowned in a lake located nearby. One by one, the teens fall victim to a mysterious killer.
Friday the 13th, inspired by the success of John Carpenter's Halloween, was made on an estimated budget of $550,000. Although it was poorly received by film critics, it grossed over $39.7 million at the box office in the United States, and went on to become one of the most profitable slasher films in cinema history; it was also the first movie of its kind to secure distribution in the USA by a major studio, Paramount Pictures. The film's box office success led to a long series of sequels, a crossover with Freddy Krueger and a reimagining currently in development.

Reception

Upon release, Friday the 13th and panned by critcs. It's most vocal dectractor was Gene Siskel who in his review called Cunningham "one of the most despictable creatures ever to infest the movie business". He also published Betsy Palmer's home address and encourage fellow detractors to write to her and express their contempt for the film. Variety claimed the film was "[l]owbudget in the worst sense - with no apparent talent or intelligence to offset its technical inadequacies - Friday the 13th has nothing to exploit but its title."
The film came in at #31 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments for the ending sequence, and was voted #15 in Channel 4's 100 Greatest Scariest Moments.

Adaptations
In 1987, seven years after the release of the motion picture, Simon Hawke adapted a novelization of Friday the 13th. One of the few additions to the book was Mrs. Voorhees begging the Christy family to take her back after the loss of her son; they agreed. Another addition in the novel is more understanding in Mrs. Voorhees' actions. Hawke felt the character had attempted to move on when Jason died, but her psychosis got the best of her. When Steve Christy reopened the camp, Mrs. Voorhees saw it as a chance that what happened to her son could happen again. Her murders were against the counselors, because she saw them all as responsible for Jason's death. Hawke had previously written the novelization of Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives in 1986, and would go on to write the novelizations for Part 2 and Part 3. All four novels were originally published by Signet, but are currently out-of-print.
